RABBI TZVI ALPEROWITZ
Co-Director
Originally from Bournemouth, England, Rabbi Alperowitz studied Jewish law, philosophy, and mysticism in yeshivas in Israel and Michigan, as well as at the Rabbinical College of America. His passion for building Jewish life led him to serve as a visiting rabbi in the remote Jewish communities of Finland, Cuba, and Antigua & Barbuda. Tzvi loves connecting people, is a creative organizer, and enjoys writing a weekly column in the community newsletter.
HADASSAH ALPEROWITZ
Co-Director
Originally from Weston, Florida, Hadassah honed her skills as an educator and cultivated a deep love for sharing Jewish education. She directed Jewish summer camps in Michigan, Florida, Nevada, and Ohio, and spearheaded extracurricular development at South Florida’s largest Jewish day school. Bringing her passion and expertise to Martha’s Vineyard, Hadassah launched the Alef Art Club, Jewnior Fest, and the new Mini Camp Gan Israel.
--
Rabbi Tzvi and Hadassah founded Chabad on the Vineyard in late 2021 after visiting Martha’s Vineyard and meeting residents eager for more Jewish life, opening in time for the summer of 2022. Together with their children, Mendel, Chaya, and Shmuel, and the support of dedicated and generous friends, the Alperowitz family has built a warm, welcoming, and vibrant Jewish community, enriching Jewish life for islanders, visitors, and seasonal residents alike.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to enrich Jewish life and community on Martha’s Vineyard through thoughtfully curated educational, cultural, and traditional programs that bring the warmth, wisdom, and joy of Judaism to contemporary island life.
People of eclectic backgrounds come to Martha’s Vineyard to repose, reflect, and rejuvenate. They come to Chabad on the Vineyard for the same reasons.
PHILOSOPHY
We are founded on the principle that while Jews may embrace varying levels of observance and hold differing political beliefs, there should be a place for all—regardless of background, knowledge, or political and religious affiliation—to develop a sense of community and enrich their Jewish experience.
FUNDING
Chabad on the Vineyard is an independent non-profit and non-partisan organization funded by Island friends and donors.
MOVEMENT
Chabad is the largest international Jewish movement with centers in all fifty states and over 110 countries worldwide. Chabad on the Vineyard is an affiliate of Chabad Lubavitch of Cape Cod, directed by Rabbi Yekusiel and Devora Alperowitz.
INSPIRATION
Chabad on the Vineyard is guided and inspired by the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of blessed memory, who transformed Chabad into a global Jewish force and whose leadership, vision, and love are a beacon of light for all humanity.
